In Thailand, King Maha Vajiralongkorn has dissolved parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

The parliament was dissolved while the war with Cambodia was ongoing.

New elections will be held in 45 to 60 days. Anutin became prime minister just three months ago. He said that it was difficult to address problems including the border dispute while running a minority government. ‘I think dissolving parliament is the best solution for now. This way, political power will once again go to the people,’ he said.  Anutin dissolved parliament after the opposition prepared to introduce a no-confidence motion in parliament. Since no party has a majority in Thailand, governments have been forming and falling.

Here, the prime minister has replaced three prime ministers in a row since August 2023.

Anutin and his Bhumjaithai Party came under fire after floods in southern Thailand last month killed at least 176 people.

More than 20 people have died so far during the ongoing war with Cambodia. Thousands of people have also been displaced.
