US President Donald Trump has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of not being interested in peace talks. Three days of talks between US and Ukrainian delegations in Miami concluded on Saturday.
After the talks, Trump said Zelensky was ready to sign the peace proposal. He accused Zelensky of not supporting the US despite the fact that the US has worked very hard to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday night, Trump accused Ukrainian President Zelensky of trying to stall the talks. ‘President Zelensky hasn’t even read the proposal yet. That makes me a little sad. His people like the peace proposal. I understand that Russia likes it too. But I’m not sure that Zelensky likes it either. He’s not ready for it.’
Meanwhile, Zelensky praised the US for its good intentions in trying to negotiate peace. He said that Ukraine would work with the US. He also said that Ukraine has always been in favor of peace.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet publicly accepted the White House’s peace plan. Last week, he even said that Trump's proposal was not workable.
Recent attempts at talks between Russia and Ukraine have stalled over territorial and security issues. Russia is demanding that the territory it captured in the war remain with it. Ukraine has not accepted this. Russia is also demanding that Ukraine commit to not joining NATO. Meanwhile, Ukraine is seeking guarantees that Russia will not attack it in the future.
