Russia has warned Ukraine to withdraw its troops from the eastern region of Donbas. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that if Ukraine does not withdraw its troops, Russia will occupy the territory itself.

“Ukraine must leave these territories, otherwise we will occupy them ourselves,” Putin said in an interview with India Today.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that there will be no compromise on his territory. Since the war began in 2022, Russia has occupied 85 percent of Ukraine’s Donbas region.

The US-brokered peace process has also not gained momentum due to the failure to reach an agreement on territorial claims between the two countries. The future of the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia and Ukraine’s security guarantees are considered to be the two main issues in the peace talks.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff met Putin in Moscow on Tuesday. He has since made plans to meet the Ukrainian team in Florida.

Trump said that Tuesday’s talks with Putin were very good. But Putin said that he had some disagreements with the plan put forward by the US.
