Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered to pardon him from corruption charges. He made the request in a written letter to the president's legal department.

He is on trial for fraud, bribery and corruption. He is the first person to undergo such an investigation while serving as prime minister in Israel. . He is accused of various illegal activities to help his wealthy political supporters.  But none of the charges have been confirmed.  Netanyahu has claimed that all the charges against him are baseless.  He has accused the media, police and courts of trying to hound him.

Trump's request

Just a few weeks ago, US President Donald Trump urged Israeli lawmakers to grant Netanyahu a general pardon.

He addressed the Israeli parliament last month.  Earlier this month, Trump wrote a letter to President Isaac Herzog, calling the corruption charges against Netanyahu politically motivated.

Prime Minister Netanyahu's apology to the president has sparked protests. They argue that protecting corruption undermines the country's image and democratic institutions.
