The attack has reignited a conflict between the two sides that had seemed to have subsided just a few days ago. ‘ Pakistan’s expansionist forces have attacked the house of local Walit Khan, son of Qazi Mir,’ Mujahid wrote on social media X, ‘ The result , Nine children (5, four sons and three daughters, and a woman) were martyred and their house was destroyed. ’ Mujahid also alleged that at least four civilians were injured in other attacks in northeastern Kunar and eastern Paktika provinces. Pakistan has not yet commented on the matter. The bomb attack in Afghanistan came a day after a suicide attack on the headquarters of Pakistan’s paramilitary Federal Constabulary Force in Peshawar.
The Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a breakaway group from the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack in Pakistan.
Pakistan's state-run PTV had aired a report claiming that Afghan nationals were involved in the attack. Pakistani President Asif Zardari had accused foreigners of orchestrating the attack. At least 12 people were killed in another suicide bombing in Islamabad earlier this month. The group, which split from the Pakistani Taliban, also claimed responsibility. Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of planning the attack. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have deteriorated since the Taliban took power in 2021. At least 70 soldiers from both sides were killed in fighting in the border area in October. Since then, a ceasefire has been brokered by Qatar and Turkey. But no permanent agreement was reached at the talks in Istanbul.
Pakistan has accused the Taliban of harboring those involved in attacks in its country. The Taliban has denied the accusation. It has accused Pakistan of harboring groups that spread hatred towards Afghanistan and undermining Afghanistan's sovereignty.
