A video of a woman moving around inside a coffin as she was being taken to a temple for her funeral has recently gone viral on social media. The video was posted on its Facebook page by the Wat Rat Prakhong Tham Buddhist temple in Nonthaburi province, Thailand.
In the video, the woman, who was placed in a white coffin, is seen shaking her hands and head slightly behind a pickup truck, which surprised temple staff. The temple's general and financial affairs manager, Payrat Sudathup, told The Associated Press on Monday that her brother had brought the 65-year-old woman from Phitsanulok province for the funeral. He described the incident as follows: "We heard a soft knocking sound from the coffin. I was a little surprised, so I had the coffin opened and everyone was shocked. She had opened her eyes a little and was knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for a long time." The woman's brother told Payrat that her sister had been bedridden for about two years. She had stopped breathing two days ago after her health deteriorated. The brother then carried her in a coffin and travelled 500 kilometres (300 miles) to a hospital in Bangkok, where she had already expressed her wish to donate her organs. But the hospital refused to accept the donation because it did not have a death certificate. "Our temple provides free funeral services, so she came to us on Sunday, but we also refused because we did not have the documents," said Parat. The temple administrator was explaining how to get a death certificate when there was a knock. She was then examined and sent to a nearby hospital. According to Parat, the temple has announced that the temple will bear all the expenses for the woman's treatment.
