Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son, Sajib Wajid, has reacted to the death sentence handed down against his mother, saying the decision was made illegally.

Bangladesh's International Criminal Tribunal has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death. Bangladesh has since asked India to send her back. News agency ANI spoke to her son Sajeeb Wajid about Sheikh Hasina's extradition and the political crisis in Bangladesh. Sajeeb said, "India has always been a good friend. India saved my mother's life in times of crisis. If she had not left Bangladesh, extremists would have planned to kill her. For this reason, I will always be grateful to Prime Minister Modi's government for saving my mother's life."

Regarding Sheikh Hasina's extradition, he said, "It is necessary to follow the judicial process for extradition." There is no elected government in Bangladesh and it is not a constitutional government.’

He said that the law was amended to convict his mother and speed up the trial. He said that since the law cannot be amended without parliament, the sentence given under the illegally amended law is also illegal.’

Sajib Wajid alleged, ‘My mother was not even allowed to have a lawyer in her defense.’ Even lawyers were not allowed to go to court.’ 17 judges of the court were removed before the trial. New judges were appointed. Some of them had no experience of working in the bench.’
