The International Criminal Tribunal-1 has begun reading its verdict in the case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her top aides, Bangladeshi media outlet The Dailystar.net reported.

Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police Chaudhry Abdullah Al Mamum are also accused in the case. 

The three-member tribunal is headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mazumdar. He is reading the verdict in the courtroom amid tight security. Hasina, 78, is in India and has been refusing requests to return from India to give a statement.  A large number of people were killed when the police opened fire during a student-led protest on August 5, 2024. 

Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman is also absconding.  Former Inspector General of Police Chaudhry Mamum is in custody and has confessed to the charges.  He has also agreed to cooperate with the government and give a statement against others involved in the crime. 

The cases filed by ICT-1 against Hasina and her aides are as follows. 

Case One: The defendants are accused of murder, attempted murder, torture and other inhumane acts. They are accused of failing to prevent the crime.

Case 2: They are accused of ordering the use of deadly weapons, helicopters and drones to control student protesters.

Case 3: They are accused of ordering, instigating, aiding, abetting and abetting the murder of Abu Sayyed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, on July 16, 2024. Case 4: They are accused of directly ordering, aiding and abetting the murder of six unarmed protesters in Chankarpul, Dhaka, on August 5, 2024. Mududa 5

 :   5 protesters were allegedly shot dead and another injured . There are also allegations that the bodies of the 5 were burned to cover up the crime, and another protester was burned alive .
