Ammonium nitrate, which was recovered from a doctor's house in Faridabad, exploded at the Nowgam police station in Srinagar on Friday midnight.

The explosion destroyed the entire area on one side of the post. Vehicles parked in the parking lot were also burnt. According to Indian media, 10 people, including a police inspector, were killed in the explosion.

It is said that 50 people, including a DSP-rank officer and a tehsildar, were present at the post when the explosion occurred. According to the police, 27 people were injured. Of these, 24 were policemen. Five of the injured have been admitted to the Army Base Hospital. The rest have been admitted to other hospitals in Srinagar.

The police have said that it was not a terrorist attack but an accident. It is said that the explosion occurred in ammonium nitrate recovered in Faridabad from a gang of doctors arrested for belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, which is linked to the Delhi blasts.

Those arrested in Faridabad had brought some of the 360 kg ammonium nitrate from Dr Muzammil's house to the lab for testing by the FSL. The rest was kept in the warehouse of the Naugam outpost.
