The government has tightened security after crude bomb blasts and arson attacks in various parts of the country on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as the elections approach. Police have arrested a large number of people on charges of involvement in violent activities.
Along with the police, the army, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Security Force are also patrolling various areas. Traffic movement on Dhaka's roads is comparatively light today due to tight security.
The number of passengers on the metro train is also low, according to a report by the Bangladeshi media outlet The Daily Star. Similarly, security arrangements have been tightened at airports. Hasina's case is yet to be decided.
Hasina's case is yet to be decided at the Bangladesh International Crimes Authority in Dhaka on charges against humanity.
She is accused of ordering violent repression during peaceful protests that lasted from July to August 2024. A complaint has also been filed against 26 other people in this case.
Hasina fled the country on August 5, 2024, after the protests intensified. Three days later, an interim government was formed under the leadership of Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus to hold elections in Bangladesh.
