Impact of shutdown in the US: Flights cut at 40 airports

What you should know

US officials are preparing to cut flights at 40 of the country's busiest airports, a decision that will cancel thousands of flights daily.

The plan is designed to reduce the workload on air traffic controllers. According to officials, the number of air traffic controllers in airport control towers is currently very low.

Nearly 1.4 million federal employees have not received their salaries due to the longest shutdown in history in the US for 37 days. Except for emergencies, other government services are mostly suspended.

Some airport employees have been on unpaid leave. Some employees are also doing 'side jobs' because they have not been paid. Employee organizations have expressed concern that employees appear exhausted.

Since then, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released a list of 40 airports that will reduce flights on Thursday.

However, the administration has stated that it will not reduce international flights.

‘This is unnatural,’ FAA Chief Baron Bedford said of the flight cuts, ‘just like a shutdown is unnatural . Just like our controllers haven’t been paid for months .’

The list of 40 airports that will see domestic flight cuts includes Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International, Denver International, Chicago Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and other world-class airports.

The FAA announced plans to cut flights by 4 percent on Friday, 6 percent on November 11, 13 percent on November 13, and 10 percent on November 14.
