At least 14 people have died after a migrant boat capsized off the coast of the Bodrum Peninsula in southwestern Turkey.
The incident is at least 750 kilometers by land from the Turkish capital Ankara. Some passengers managed to swim to safety in the accident that took place in the sea off the coast of Mugla province, Al Jazeera reported. An Afghan survivor said the rubber boat was carrying 18 passengers and started taking on water when the accident occurred. Search and rescue teams were using boats, helicopters and special divers to try to recover anyone alive from the scene. According to Gulf News, migrants are trying to reach Greece via this short but risky sea route.
