Abdullahi Baba Ara, Chairman of Borgu Local Administration, informed about the incident and said that the death toll may increase. It is said that 10 people were seriously injured in the accident and many others are still missing. According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, rescue workers and local divers are engaged in the search for the missing. Boat accidents are frequent in Nigeria, the main causes of which are overloading, bad weather and operational errors.
