The death toll from the Afghanistan earthquake has reached more than 1,400. On Sunday midnight (September 1, 11:47 am), 1,411 people died in the earthquake that occurred in eastern Afghanistan.

 

quoting Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, Reuters reported that another 3124 people were injured and more than 5400 houses were destroyed. The earthquake, whose epicenter was 27 km northeast of Jalalabad, caused heavy damage to the cities of Kunar province. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was 8 km deep.

According to Al-Jazeera, the United Nations Coordinator for Afghanistan has said that the number of deaths may increase. Similarly, the Afghan Red Crescent Society, a humanitarian group working in the earthquake-affected area, suspects that many more people may be trapped in the rubble.

Earlier on October 7, 2023, an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude occurred in Afghanistan . At that time, the Taliban government said that at least 4,000 people had died.
