At least 15 people died when a boat capsized in a river while fleeing after mass violence in the northern state of Zamfara, Nigeria. In the northwestern region of Nigeria, criminal gangs have been causing terror by looting and setting fire to villages and kidnapping for ransom.

Among the dead are 8 women, 3 children and 4 men and three people have been rescued. Aliyu Shehu, director of Nigeria's emergency agency, NEMA, confirmed the incident and said that rescue workers are planning to go to the scene to assist the survivors.
