The Ukrainian army said on Sunday it had recaptured a village in the Sumy region from the Russian army.
Ukrainian forces have "liberated and completely evacuated" Bezsalivka from Russian forces, the General Secretariat of the Military said in a Telegram post. The post also claimed that 18 Russian soldiers were "killed" in the Ukrainian attack. The village in the northern region is only about 20 kilometers (13 miles) west of the main fighting area between the two countries' armies.
Russia, which attacked Ukraine in February 2022, after recapturing the Kursk region from the Ukrainian army, has started attacking the Sumy region since April. Russian troops are currently about 20 kilometers away from the regional capital of Sumy. The regional capital of Sumi has become a frequent target of shelling. The main focus of the Russian offensive is in eastern Ukraine, where Russia claims to have been occupying various territories for the past month.
