A special court in Bengaluru on Saturday sentenced Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former JDS MP and former Prime Minister AJ Deve Gowda, to life imprisonment in a rape case.
The court also imposed a fine of 10 lakh Indian rupees against Prajwal. It has also ordered to pay compensation of 7 lakh Indian rupees to the victim. Revanna was found guilty by the court on Friday.
Revanna demanded a lesser sentence in the court and claimed that he had done nothing wrong. A 47-year-old woman who was working in Revanna's Rivera registered a case against him in April last year.
in which Revanna was accused of raping several times since 2021 and threatening to leak obscene videos to anyone. The court heard the case on July 18. Charges were framed against Revanna under several sections, including rape, indecency, criminal threats and leaking obscene photos. Four cases of rape were filed against him. This is the first case in which he has been convicted.
Last year, Prajwal Revanna's name came into the limelight after he was involved in the Karnataka sex scandal. There are allegations of sexual harassment against more than 50 women. Last year alone, there were more than 2,000 obscene video clips of Revanna on social media.
JDS suspended him from the post of MP after the rape case was filed.
