Relatives and family members of their loved ones held hostage by Hamas have protested widely in Tel Aviv asking the Israeli government to take a strong initiative for the release of their loved ones. Of the 251 hostages taken by Hamas, about 20 are believed to be still alive.

Hamas and Gaza's second largest militant group, Islamic Jihad, released separate videos of the hostages this week, further angering their families and Israelis.

US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, also took the initiative for ceasefire talks only a week ago. He called for the immediate release of the hostages, blaming Hamas's stand for a ceasefire as unfair. He promised to find other ways to make Gaza safe.

Demonstrators are calling on the Israeli government to reach an agreement to end the war, Lior Chorev, chief strategy officer of the Hostage and Missing Families Forum, said, "We request that this nightmare be stopped and the hostages be released from the hands of militant groups as soon as possible."
