In June 2017, the tri-national border area of India, China and Bhutan, Doklam, almost turned into a battlefield. There was tension between the two nuclear powers India and China for about 73 days. However, that tension soon dissipated.

The Indian government is preparing to develop this tri-national point Doklam as a tourist destination.

The government of Sikkim has put forward a proposal to make Doklam a tourist center under the 'Ranbhoomi Tourism Scheme' under the Government of India. Using the tourism potential, the Sikkim government has started trying to bring the nearby Chola Pass area on the tourism map. For this, coordination with the central government and the army is continuing, according to the Indian media.

According to CS Rao, Additional Secretary of Sikkim Tourism Department, waiting rooms, toilets and rest rooms are being constructed for the convenience of tourists in Doklam and Chola areas. "We have proceeded with the construction of basic facilities at both locations," said Rao.

Doklam and Chola, both areas are at a distance of about 30 km from Sikkim's famous tourist destinations Changu Lake and Nathula Pass. 'If these areas can be opened for tourists, the attraction of domestic and foreign tourists will increase,' says Rao, 'the state can also get good income from this.' The final decision will be taken after discussions with the Indian Army.

The Sikkim government has conducted a motorcycle tour some time ago to study the geographical structure, access, tourism potential of the Doklam area.

After the Doklam conflict of 2017, the Indian government prioritized the expansion of the infrastructure connecting the China border . According to the Indian media, about 7.7 billion rupees have been allocated to widen and upgrade the national 717 'A' highway.

Thousands of tourists visit places like Gurudongmar, Nathula, Changu Lake every year. Now Doklam and Chola are also included in that list .
