US President Donald Trump has announced a comprehensive trade agreement with Japan on Tuesday night. The agreement which was considered very difficult even two weeks ago.

"I just signed the biggest trade deal in history, possibly the biggest deal ever with Japan," Trump said in a meeting with Republican lawmakers on Tuesday night. This is a big deal for everyone. According to the agreement, the US is going to impose 15 percent customs duty on Japanese goods. It is estimated that the Japanese automobile and car parts industry will benefit directly from this. Since last April, the US has been imposing a 25 percent tariff on Japanese automobiles and parts. With the

agreement, Japan will invest 550 billion dollars in America. Trump claims that America will receive 90 percent of the profit from this investment. This agreement will create millions of jobs, which has not happened yet. Similarly, Japan will open doors for cars and trucks, rice and some other agricultural products. And, Japan will pay a 15 percent customs duty when exporting to the US," Trump said on Truth Social.

After Trump's announcement, the Japanese stock market reached its highest point of the year on Wednesday. Japan's stock market Nikkei rose 3.7 percent on the day as shares of car makers rose. Yozei Akazawa, who is involved in trade negotiations with the US, also expressed his happiness by writing that the mission was accomplished on the social network X. "As a result, this is probably the first trade agreement in the world where tariffs are reduced without any restrictions," he told reporters in Washington on Tuesday night.

Yojei claims that the agreement is historic because the customs rate is the lowest for the countries doing profitable trade with America. He also said that the Japanese government will carefully consider all aspects of the agreement. "We believe that this agreement will contribute to job creation, quality production and bilateral partnership between Japan and the United States," said Akazawa.

According to him, the 550 billion dollars that Japan will invest in America with the agreement will include equity and debt. Akazawa revealed that it is especially used for the production of medicines and semiconductors. He says that Japan's agricultural sector will not be negatively affected as discussed after the agreement with America. He also said that discussions with the US will continue on items not included in the agreement.

International media have mentioned that the trade talks between America and Japan are very tense. Last June, when asked by reporters about the trade agreement with Japan, President Trump responded that the Japanese were tough. He revealed that rice is at the center of the discussion of the trade agreement between the two countries. "Even if they lack rice, they will not take our rice," Trump wrote on Truth Social. However, after Tuesday's agreement, Trump mentioned that the agreement on the background of the special relationship with Japan was a historic moment for the United States.

According to the US Bureau of Statistics, the US exported rice worth 298 million dollars to Japan last year. From January to April this year, Japan has imported rice worth 114 million dollars. Similarly, according to the Japan Automobile Importers Association, 16,777 vehicles were imported from America last year.

Japan is America's major trading partner. Japan is also among the top five countries that America imports from. According to the US Department of Commerce, Japan exported goods worth 1.48 billion dollars to the US last year. The share of cars, spare parts and agricultural and construction equipment was higher.

Similarly, America exported goods worth 80 billion dollars to Japan last year. It mainly consisted of products related to oil, gas, medicine and air services.

After Trump started his second office, the US imposed a 24 percent customs duty on Japanese products for some time. However, after it was suspended for 90 days in April, 10 percent customs duty was imposed on Japanese products. In the first week of July, US President Trump sent a letter to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, warning that if he is not ready for a trade agreement, he will impose a 25 percent tariff from August 1.
