Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhad has resigned from the post. He resigned on Monday evening citing health reasons. Writing a letter to President Draupadi Murmu, he has mentioned that he has resigned from the post due to his health condition and doctor's advice.

Dhankhad's term was to be completed only in August 2027 . He resigned 2 years before the end of his tenure . Through Janata Dal, Congress and BJP, he played various roles and reached the second highest position in the country.

But there are various speculations about the 'timing' of his resignation. Especially the opposition parties have raised serious questions about his resignation. In India, the Vice President is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. As Rajya Sabha Speaker, Dhankhad often had a confrontational position with the opposition parties. Even in December last year, the opposition alliance 'India' gave a notice of no-confidence motion against him .

After Dhankhad's resignation, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote on social media, 'The sudden resignation of the Vice President is surprising, even incomprehensible . I was with him today around 5 pm along with other MPs . He had a phone conversation at 7:30 in the evening.' Ramesh mentioned that it was natural for Dhankhad to give priority to health and suspected that 'a lot of things are brewing' after his unexpected resignation.

Before resigning, Dhankhad also met some ministers. According to Lallantup, he had a meeting with the top ministers of the Modi government. According to media reports, Lallantap mentioned that Dhankhad met Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The meeting took place in the Parliament premises. Three ministers also sat separately. On Monday evening, BJP MPs were also in the office of Defense Minister Singh. Lallantap writes, 'We were made to sign a blank piece of paper,' a BJP MP said on condition of anonymity. As long as he remained as vice president, he remained as a 'polarizing figure'. He openly talked about Sanatan and the Constitution. He was sworn in as Vice President on 11 August 2022. Before that he was the Governor of West Bengal. He was appointed as the Governor in July 2019. Even as the governor, he was in conflict with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Recently, the opposition parties also alleged, 'Jagdeep Dhankhad was conducting the Rajya Sabha meeting in a biased manner.'

BBC Hindi has mentioned an incident on Monday regarding the dominance of the ruling party BJP over the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. During the meeting, BJP MP JP Nadda told the opposition leaders, 'Nothing goes on record . Only what I am saying goes on record . You should know this .' Usually, such an address is made by the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha or the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
