Four people were killed in a violent clash in Gopalganj, the hometown of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh.
This incident took place during the demonstration of the National Citizen Party (NPC) led by the students. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur, popularly known as Mujib. The office of interim government chief Mohammad Yunus has imposed a curfew in Gopalganj.
There was a violent movement led by students in July-August of last year. Hasina's government was ousted on August 5 last year after the movement became violent. The students who led the movement formed a political party named NPC last February.
According to local media, a battleground was formed when supporters of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's hometown Hasina clashed with hundreds of policemen. Four people were killed in the police attack. After the bodies were taken to the hospital, the doctors said that the dead were shot. Others were also injured by bullets and they are being treated.
The head of the interim government, Mohammad Yunus, has imposed a curfew in Gopalganj. He has also warned that he will not back down from punishing those who attacked the NCP.
Yunus wrote a post on X and said, "During a peaceful rally, police and media were attacked by NCP members." He held Hasina's Awami League and its student organization responsible for the violence.
