About 40,000 refugees have been evacuated from refugee camps in the northwestern West Bank since the Israeli army launched an attack on camps including Tulkarm, Nur Shams and Jenin in January.
Israeli authorities have stated that the operation was carried out with the aim of destroying the armed Palestinian groups active in these camps. In May, the Israeli army demolished more than 100 houses in Tulkarm camp.
The army said the demolition was necessary for security reasons. But the residents are afraid of permanent displacement. Bashir Matahin, spokesperson of Jenin Municipality, said that about 600 houses were destroyed.
He says that eight roads have been built in and around the camp and 22,000 locals have been displaced from there.
