During the last two weeks, more than 900 earthquakes have been felt in the remote and sparsely populated islands of southern Japan. Because of this, it is said that the citizens of this area stay awake all night with worry.

After the 5.5 Richter scale earthquake that occurred on Wednesday, the local authorities have said that the seismic activity in the sea of Tokara Island has been very active since the last 21 days.

According to officials, no damage has been reported yet. Nor has any tsunami warning been given. But the locals have been alerted to be ready when necessary.

A local speaking to the regional broadcaster MBC said, "It has become very scary to sleep at night." It feels like the house is always shaking.'' Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world. More than 1500 earthquakes occur here every year.
