34-year-old Takahiro Shiraishi, found guilty of murdering nine people, has been sentenced to death in Japan. Japan's Justice Ministry said Shiraisi, known as the "Twitter Killer," was sentenced to death on Friday. Takahiro was sentenced to death in 2020 for the murders of nine people in 2017. Takahiro was also found guilty by the court on charges of sexual abuse.

Investigating officers who were searching for a 23-year-old girl who disappeared after expressing suicide thoughts on social media reached Shiraisi's apartment. In his apartment, the police found the bodies of eight teenagers, a woman and a man. Then he was arrested .  According to CNN , police found human heads and bones in three cooler boxes in Shiraisi's room.

According to the researchers, Shiraisi reached out to people through Twitter, offering to help with his suicidal urges. Calling them to the apartment, he killed three teenagers and five women after raping and also killed the lover of one woman. Most of the people who reached Shiraisi's apartment were found to have posted suicidal thoughts on social media before the contact started through social media. In the court statement, Shiraisi stated that he killed them to fulfill his sexual desire.

According to Japanese television NHK , Shiraishi's lawyer appealed against the verdict in the Tokyo High Court. But later he withdrew the appeal .

Talking to NHK , a father who lost his daughter due to Shiraisi said, 'Instead of ending his life by giving the death penalty, he wanted to see her life atone for the crimes she committed throughout her life.'

Minister of Justice Keisuke Suzuki informed about the incident and said in a press conference that this incident has caused very serious consequences and has spread unrest in the society . According to Justice Minister Suzuki, 150 people are currently awaiting the death penalty in Japan. Out of which 49 people are demanding reconsideration of the decision .

Shiraishi was secretly hanged in a Tokyo detention center . This news was made public only after the death sentence was over. Since 2007, Japan has begun publishing the names of those sentenced to death and details of their crimes .

In Japan, a person was sentenced to death in July 2022. In 2018, he was found guilty of causing a car crash in a Tokyo shopping mall and stabbing seven people to death.
