At least 15 people were killed when a bus carrying students returning to university crashed in northern Malaysia. The accident took place when the speeding bus collided with a minivan.
Among the deceased are 14 students of Sultan Idris Education University and one bus assistant. 33 people were injured in the accident and seven people are being treated in hospital in a serious condition. Among the dead, most of the students are in the age group of 21 to 23 years.
The accident happened after 1 pm on Sunday . An eyewitness to the accident told The New Straits Times that he saw a chaotic scene of students screaming and crying for help at the scene.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, has instructed the Minister of Higher Education to support the victims' families. He has written on social media that 'the repetition of such a heartbreaking incident is a lesson for everyone to be alert and careful'.
