A cease-fire initiative between Israel and Hamas

International media reports that Israel has accepted the cease-fire proposal made by the US between Israel and Hamas. However, Hamas has responded that it is studying the proposal. Moreover, it is said that the representative of Hamas gave an initial reaction saying that the proposals for the ceasefire are in favor of Israel.

Israel has not commented on the acceptance of the American proposal. However, White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt claimed that Israel approved the proposal. According to Reuters, the draft proposes a 60-day ceasefire. Under which 28 Israeli hostages, alive and dead, will be released by Hamas in the first week. In return, 125 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment by Israel will be released and the remains of 180 Palestinians killed in the attack will be handed over in the draft.

In the latest proposal, it is said that if the ceasefire is agreed to, the supply of aid to Gaza will also be facilitated.

In a conversation with Reuters, Sam Abu Zuhri, a senior official of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, said that the ceasefire proposal is being studied and discussed.

After three months of Israel's blockade of Gaza, life is becoming chaotic due to starvation. The cease-fire to end the war was also broken after less than two months in March. Since then, the US, Egypt and Qatar have continued diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire. Israel has been adamant about disarming Hamas. His precondition is to release 58 people held hostage by Hamas.

Hamas has been demanding the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. The delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza will begin immediately after the latest ceasefire agreement is reached. According to international organizations including the United Nations, two million people in Gaza are at risk of starvation due to the Israeli blockade since the ceasefire was broken last March. Organizations including the World Food Program have been requesting to facilitate the distribution of aid.
