Nine people were killed in an attack by Russia on a public bus in northeastern Ukraine. According to the local authorities, 7 other people were injured in the attack in Bilopilia in Sumi on Saturday morning.

The news of the attack came hours after Russia and Ukraine held their first direct peace talks since 2022. Although the two countries have agreed on the exchange of prisoners of war, no progress has been made on the issue of ceasefire.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of deliberately killing civilians. Russia has not directly commented on the incident. But the state-run media reported that the army struck a 'military zone' in Sumi.

According to Sumy Regional Chief Oleh Hrihorov, the Russian Lancet drone hit the bus at 6:17 a.m. local time on Saturday. He says that Russia has attacked inhumanely.
