US President Donald Trump has said that without a personal meeting with Putin, there will be no progress in the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Trump says nothing will happen unless he and Russian President Vladimir Putin get together.
"Look, nothing is going to happen unless Putin and I get together," Trump said while talking to reporters on the eve of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey, "but we have to find a solution because a lot of people are dying."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in Turkey for talks with Russia, met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara. Zelensky said that Ukraine is preparing some more decisions to reach a peace agreement. It is said that the Russian delegation in the
talks will be led by Vladimir Medinsky, a key aide of the president. He confirmed that he has reached Istanbul and said that Russia wants to address the "root causes of the conflict" and establish lasting peace in Ukraine.
His remarks came after Russia rejected a 30-day ceasefire proposal put forward by Ukraine and its allies The BBC has indicated that the Russian demand will remain the same.
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the Russian Presidential Office, Kremlin, said that the Russian delegation has been waiting for the Ukrainians in Istanbul since this morning. Peskov said Putin has no plans to travel to Turkey or meet Trump in the next few days.
