Gaza ceasefire talks mean nothing: Hamas

The Palestinian group Hamas has said that the Gaza ceasefire talks have no meaning. Hamas has said that it will not sit in negotiations after Israel said that it will expand its ground attack on the Gaza area and occupy the area.

"There is no point in further negotiating a new cease-fire and hostage release agreement in Gaza," senior Hamas official Bassem Naim said.

On Sunday, Israel announced plans to expand its offensive to free hostages held by Hamas. The plan has been approved by Israel's Security Council. According to the BBC, the plan also includes the strategy of occupying the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has called tens of thousands of reserve troops to prepare for the attack. The IDF said it was "increasing pressure" with the aim of returning home the remaining Israeli hostages and defeating Hamas. But it is said that the action according to the new strategy will be implemented only after US President Donald Trump's visit to the region next week.

The Israeli plan has been criticized by Britain, France and the United Nations. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his concern about the Israeli plan and said it would "lead to the death of countless civilians and the further destruction of Gaza".
