Iran's top diplomat to Pakistan to mediate tensions with India after Pahalgam attack

Iran's foreign minister has reached Pakistan on Monday to try to mediate the growing tension between India and Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22.

According to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is the first visit by any foreign diplomat since tensions escalated after the killing of tourists in Kashmir. The visit comes days after Tehran offered to help ease tensions between its nuclear-armed neighbors .

After landing at the airport near Islamabad, Araghchi was received by senior Pakistani officials . He will meet his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the ministry said. The ministry has not given further details.

Cabinet Minister Attaullah Tarar said on the 9th of Baisakh (April 22)  Pakistan's armed forces have been on high alert since last week after Islamabad said it had reliable intelligence that India could attack Pakistan in response to the attack in Pahalgam.

Pakistan has denied any role in the attack and has offered a credible international investigation. New Delhi has not yet accepted this offer . Many world leaders, including US officials, have urged both sides to exercise restraint and avoid further tensions.
