A Catholic group has strongly objected to the sharing of an AI photo of Donald Trump as the Pope from the Instagram account of the US President's Office.
The photo was shared as Catholics mourn the death of Pope Francis on April 21. In the posted photo of Trump, he is dressed in a white robe like the Pope, with a large cross around his neck and one finger raised in a solemn expression.
The New York State Catholic Conference has accused Trump of mocking their faith. A few days ago, Trump jokingly said to the media, "I want to be the Pope."
Trump is the first American president who has been accused of this type. A year ago, the former president of the United States, Joe Biden, made the 'sign of the cross' at a pro-abortion rally and angered the Catholic community.
A Vatican spokesman has not commented on Trump's photo. The process of choosing a successor to the Pope will begin in the Vatican on Wednesday.
The New York State Catholic Conference wrote on X, "This photo is nothing special, Mr. President ." We have just had the last rites of our beloved Pope . And now a serious election process is going to start . Please don't make fun of us .'
