US Vice President JD Vance is on a four-day visit to India from Monday as the US and India are trying to open up new economic opportunities and negotiate bilateral trade agreements. Vance's visit to India has been scheduled at a time when tensions are rising between Washington and Beijing due to the recent trade war.

Vance is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss economy, trade and geopolitical relations. Vance's visit is seen as an important diplomatic mission by President Donald Trump's administration. Beijing is New Delhi's main competitor in the Asian region. 

A trade deal between India and the US is seen to significantly boost economic ties between the two countries and potentially strengthen diplomatic ties. The US is also India's largest trading partner with a recent bilateral trade of 1 trillion 90 billion dollars.

India's Ministry of External Affairs has said that Vance's visit will "provide an opportunity for both sides to review progress in bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest".

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard came to India for a geopolitical conference and two months after Modi met Trump in Washington, Vance will arrive in India.

After returning to the White House, Modi is one of the first leaders to go to the US to hold talks and meet with Trump. During his visit, Modi praised the 'mega partnership' with the US. Similarly, he started a negotiation process to reduce the possible impact of Trump's tariff after cutting the tariff on American goods. 

Although Trump announced a 26 percent tariff on Indian imports . But he has suspended the import tax for 90 days. It has also provided temporary relief to Indian exporters .

During his visit, Modi tried to play down trade tensions by saying he was ready to cut more tariffs on US goods, send back undocumented Indians and buy military equipment. Because of this, both countries agreed to negotiate for a trade agreement.

Similarly, Indian Prime Minister Modi on Friday discussed with the billionaire, CEO of SpaceX and the head of the US Department of Energy, Elon Musk, "the immense potential of cooperation in the fields of technology and innovation". In the conversation, Modi said that 'India is committed to advance partnership with the US in the fields of technology and innovation'. 

India is a close partner of the US for bilateral trade, foreign direct investment, defense cooperation and is an important strategic ally in countering China's growing influence in the Indo-Pacific region. America, India, Japan and Australia are also members of the Quad. The Quad is seen as a counterbalance to China's expansion in the region .

Major American companies such as Apple Inc. and Google have expanded their operations in India in recent years . Last month, Musk's Starlink signed a deal with two of India's top telecom operators to provide satellite-based internet services.

To further boost trade relations, the US and India have set an ambitious goal of doubling their bilateral trade to over $5 trillion by 2030 under an expected trade agreement.

In such a situation, dialogue with America is also necessary for New Delhi . Apart from that, India also wants to negotiate and negotiate more on Trump's mutual tariff issues. Especially in the fields of agriculture, processed food, auto components, high-end machinery, medical equipment and jewelry, India and the US are also expected to cooperate . Creating jobs while improving the country's economy and regaining export leadership has also been seen as unnecessary for the Modi government. 

Modi established a good relationship during Trump's first term. As Chinese President Xi Jinping aims to position Beijing as a reliable trade partner in the Asia-Pacific region amid growing tensions with Washington, the two leaders are likely to increase cooperation between their countries, especially in trade.
