Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of violating the ceasefire

Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of violating the Easter ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that despite Russia's announcement of a 30-hour ceasefire, the attack continues.

Zelensky claims that Ukraine has followed the ceasefire but Russia has broken it. "The Russian army is trying to create a general perception about the ceasefire". But in some places it has not given up trying to damage Ukraine," he said.

According to President Zelensky, Russia has attacked 19 locations and claimed that there were 887 shelling incidents after the ceasefire announcement. Since Ukraine did not comply with the temporary ceasefire, Ukraine has warned that it will act according to the situation . "Ukraine will take countermeasures," Zelensky said.

But Russia claims that Ukraine broke the ceasefire. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense on Saturday night  Ukraine has shelled various locations in Russia and has carried out hundreds of drone attacks.

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a cease-fire until Sunday midnight on the occasion of Easter. Putin announced that on the occasion of Easter, the Russian army will stop all military operations from 6:00 p.m. local time on Saturday to midnight on Sunday.

Putin said the ceasefire was guided by humanitarian considerations . In addition to that, he said that the Ukrainian side also expects to take steps accordingly. But Putin warned that if Ukraine violates the ceasefire or does any kind of escalation, Russia will take retaliatory action. "If there is a provocative situation or a violation of the ceasefire, the Russian military is ready for countermeasures," Putin said.

Before Putin declared a ceasefire, Zelensky condemned Russia's attack last Friday . "Russia started Good Friday by launching ballistic, cruise, Shahid missiles and crippling our people and cities," he wrote on the social network X .

Russia is always open to ending the war, sources claim that Putin made an unexpected ceasefire to send a message to America. With US President Donald Trump saying that the US would consider mediating the Russia-Ukraine talks if it was 'too difficult' to reach a peace agreement, Putin called for a 30-hour long 'Easter ceasefire'.
