Two people have died and six people have been injured in a shooting at Florida State University in the US.
According to the local time, 2 people have died so far due to a shot fired by a student inside the university on Thursday noon. 6 injured people are being treated at local Tallahassee Health Medicare .
Local Police Unit Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the shooter was a 20-year-old Florida State student from Phoenix Ekner, AP reported. Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower said the two dead were not students.
The police claim that Ikner, who is accused in the shooting incident, used the weapon kept at home by his ex-military mother for personal use. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence said the suspect, Ekner, refused to comply with police orders and was arrested after shooting and wounding him. The cause of the shooting incident has not been made public yet.
"Five people were injured and two died due to gunshots, while one person was injured by the police while fleeing." The police statement said.
Tallahassee Memorial Health Care, which is treating the injured, said that all the injured are in good health. The student shooter was also a member of the local Lian County Youth Advisory Council.
Likewise, four students were injured in the shooting at Wilmer Hutchins High School located in the city of Dallas, Texas two days ago. After the incident, the police arrested one accused. During the preliminary investigation, the police claimed that the incident was due to a fight between the students.
Christina Smith, assistant chief of the Dallas ISD Police Department, told the American media that the treatment of the injured is ongoing. Smith said, "This investigation is very new for now, so the information about what caused the shooting has not been received yet." She said.
