China has warned it is "not afraid" of a trade war with the US after US President Donald Trump said it was up to Beijing to come to the negotiating table. Lin Jian of the Chinese Foreign Ministry has claimed that the US is not serious about solving the problem through negotiations.
"If the U.S. really wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiation, it should stop the policy of excessive pressure such as warnings and blackmailing and negotiate with China on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit," Lin Jian said. But he has again called on America for talks.
Trump initially imposed tariffs on Chinese imports, claiming China's role in the fentanyl supply chain. Since then, both countries have been embroiled in a trade war. US President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 145 percent import tax on most goods from China. Beijing has also imposed a retaliatory 125 percent tariff on US imports .
But the Trump administration has granted temporary exemptions from the latest tax hike on some tech products like smartphones and laptops. But on Tuesday, US President Trump said that the ball is in China's court. In response, Lin said, "This tax war was started by the US and China's position is clear that no one wins in a tax war or a trade war." This means, China does not want to go to war, but is not afraid to face it if it happens.'
