Hamas has rejected Israel's proposal for a six-week ceasefire.
According to the international news agency BBC, a senior Palestinian official said that in exchange for Israel's implementation of a ceasefire, Hamas had to lay down its arms.
The official said that the proposal was rejected because they did not make any commitment about the end of the war even though they proposed a ceasefire.
The cease-fire proposal made by Israel did not even mention the main demands that Hamas is raising. However, in exchange for that, Israel had set the condition that half of the hostages taken by Hamas should be released.
This proposal came at a time when Israel's military operation in Gaza is ongoing. Recently there was an air attack on a hospital in Khan Yunis, Gaza. Israel claimed that a Hamas leader was killed in the attack.
On the other hand, the United Nations agency said that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached the worst situation in 18 months since the start of the war.
