A US judge has ruled that the Trump administration can deport Columbia University student Mahmoud Khali.

According to the decision of the Immigration Court, Mahmud will be immediately deported from the country. The judge has given Khalil's lawyer until April 23 to appeal against this order.

Mahmoud Khalil was detained last month for allegedly playing a leading role in a demonstration in support of Palestine.

He has been held in a Louisiana detention center since March 8. In a letter, Khalil said that his arrest was the result of raising his voice for the rights of Palestinians.

Khalil is a legal permanent resident of the United States. There are no other charges against him.

Although the US government, referring to an immigration law of the Cold War era, said Mahmoud Khalil's presence is detrimental to the interests of US foreign policy.
