Washington (Agency) - US President Donald Trump has announced a 50 percent tax on all steel and aluminum imported from Canada. Earlier, Trump announced a 25 percent tax on Canadian imports to be implemented from Wednesday.

But after Canada's Ontario imposed a 25 percent tax on US electricity exports, Trump doubled the import tax on steel and aluminum. "Based on Ontario, Canada's 25 percent tax on electricity coming to the US, I have instructed my commerce minister to add a 25 percent tax," Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced a 25 percent tax on electricity going to America. About 1.5 million homes and businesses in the northern US border states of New York, Michigan and Minnesota will be affected by the move.

President Trump's tariffs are a disaster for the American economy. "They are making life more expensive for American families and businesses," Ford said in a statement. He has warned that he will take countermeasures if Trump increases import duties. "If necessary, I will not hesitate to increase this fee," he said, "If America increases, I will not hesitate to completely shut down the electricity."
