South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol was released on Saturday after the prosecution decided not to appeal against the court's release.
Yun got out of the black car and walked out of the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, about 20 kilometers south of Seoul. It is seen that he bowed to his supporters standing on the road by waving his hands.
After arriving at the presidential residence in central Seoul, the impeached leader got off the car again to shake hands with his supporters. On February 4, the Seoul Central District Court approved the release of the detained president, accepting Yoon's request by his legal team to overturn his detention.
Yun was arrested from the presidential office on January 15 and detained on January 26 as a suspected leader of the coup. Prosecutors filed charges against Yun on Jan. 26 at 6:52 p.m. local time. Yun declared emergency martial law on the night of December 3 last year. But the opposition-led National Assembly rejected it after a few hours.
The motion to impeach Yun was passed by the National Assembly on December 14. Since then, the Constitutional Court has held 11 hearings on Yun's impeachment, with a final verdict expected next week.
