The Lucknow court of Uttar Pradesh has ordered Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to appear in court by April 14, imposing a fine of 200 Indian rupees.
He is accused of making a controversial statement against Veer Savarkar in Akola, Maharashtra in 2022. A writ was filed against Rahul in Lucknow court last June.
Even though he was called for continuous appearance, the court imposed a fine after he did not appear. In the writ, it is alleged that Rahul called Savarkar a 'servant of the British' and a 'pensioner'.
Indian media have mentioned that the court may issue a non-bailable warrant if he does not appear in the upcoming hearing. However, this is not the first time.
The Chaibasa court of Jharkhand issued a non-bailable warrant against Rahul last year. At that time, there was an allegation of making objectionable comments against Home Minister Amit Shah .
