The Palestinian group Hamas handed over the bodies of four Israeli hostages on Thursday. Hamas has handed over the bodies of Israeli hostages for the first time in 15 months as part of a Gaza ceasefire deal.

The bodies of 84-year-old Oded Lifshitz and Siri Wibas and their children Ariel and Kefir, who were taken hostage by Hamas 15 months ago, were handed over. Hamas took them hostage from Israel on October 7, 2023.

Hamas has claimed that three members of the Bibas family were killed in an Israeli attack. But Hamas has not published any evidence about that, according to the BBC. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has said that the heart of the nation is broken after the body of the hostage was handed over.

The bodies of the dead have been handed over for the first time since the cease-fire between Hamas and Israel came into effect on January 19. Previously, Hamas has released the hostages for the sixth time.

Hamas has announced that it will release 6 hostages next Saturday. Two of them were taken hostage in 2014 and 2015. 4 people were taken hostage by Hamas from Israel on October 7, 2023.
