The Buddha statue, janto, and halo on display along with the colorful panchebaja, the decorated virgin, Daurasuruwal Dhaka hat, gunyu cholo, gave a glimpse of Nepal in America's Texas.
On Saturday, the Nepal Day was celebrated in Austin, the capital of Texas. With the completion of 75 years of Nepal-US bilateral relations, the Texas Rajya Sabha declared February 16 as 'Nepal Day' in 2023. On the same occasion, more than a dozen organizations of the Nepali community have organized the Nepal Parade program on Saturday.
The culture and traditions of Nepal have been presented in the Nepal Parade organized for the second time in Texas. Around 1,500 Nepalese were present at the event. They took out a rally by playing songs related to Nepal to the tune of panchebaja with their costumes. In the
program, 7-year-old Neema Manandhar was made a virgin. She became a virgin for the first time. More than a dozen Nepali organizations participated in the program organized by the Greater Austin Nepali Society, the National Coordinating Council of Non-Resident Nepali Associations in America, Visit Nepal Campaign, Nepal America Journalists Association (NEZA), New Austin Madhesi Nepali Society, Tamang Society, Farweston Nepalese Society, Nepalese Society of Texas (NST).
Greater Austin Nepali Society President Vidur Khatiwada presided over the event and Euless City Council Deputy Mayor Tika Poudel was the chief guest. Addressing the program, the chief guest Paudel said that the art, culture and tradition of Nepalese are being valued in America.
He claimed that with the increase in the number of Nepalis, such programs should help our generations to understand about art and culture and introduce Nepal to America and Americans. "We have declared Nepal Day from the Rajya Sabha here to make our motherland known, and it has helped us to spread the culture of Nepal in America," he said, "This is a matter of pride for us." Among these states, most Nepalis live in Texas.
