Bangladesh's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League is going to hold a series of protests demanding the resignation of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. The Awami League has said that it is going to protest against the 'false cases' against Hasina and the oppression of religious minorities, including a general strike and a nationwide blockade.
Prime Minister Hasina fled the country on August 5 after the student-led movement. Since then, most of the Awami League leaders have been arrested. Hasina is currently living in exile in India. According to the statement posted on the
party's Facebook page, the strike and blockade program will start from February 1. The movement announced by the Awami League is believed to be the biggest after Hasina's exit. According to the
statement, party members will distribute leaflets from February 1 to 5, protest and rally will be held on February 6, second protest and rally will be held on February 10. Similarly, the party has said that there will be a nationwide blockade on February 16 and a 'general strike' from morning to evening on February 18.
Awami League has warned that if there is any kind of obstruction in these programs for the political and democratic rights of the people of the country, more strict programs will be announced.
