At least 12 people were killed in a train accident in Jalgaon in the Indian state of Maharashtra on Wednesday evening. According to the Indian media, 59 people were injured in the accident.

The incident took place after the passengers jumped from the train after rumors spread that the Pushpak Express from Lucknow to Mumbai had caught fire.

According to railway officials, the passengers on the Pushpak Express jumped into the leak of the train fearing a possible fire after smoke was coming out from the wheels of the train. It is said that many of them were hit by the Karnataka Express train coming from the opposite direction at high speed.

According to Indian media, 30 to 35 people jumped from the Pushpak Express. It is said that the incident site is about 400 km away from Mumbai. It is suspected that Nepalis were also involved in the accident.
