The death toll in the plane crash at South Korea's Muan International Airport on Sunday has reached 85. There are 46 women and 39 men among those who lost their lives.

According to Yonhap news agency, two people have been rescued alive. Both are crew members. The Jeju Air plane returning from Bangkok, Thailand carrying 181 people, crashed on Sunday morning while landing at the Muan International Airport located in the southwest.

The Boeing 737-800 plane with 175 passengers and 6 crew members skidded on the runway and crashed into the wall. There were 173 Koreans and 2 Thai citizens on the plane. Emergency service officials said rescue operations are ongoing.

Public footage on social media showed the plane skidding off the runway and crashing into a wall. Soon after that, the plane caught fire and a big plume of smoke was seen.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear. But it is suspected that there was a problem with the landing gear after it collided with the bird.
