South Korea's opposition lawmakers filed an impeachment motion against Acting President Han Duk-su on Thursday. Two weeks after the parliament passed the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol, the acting president was also impeached.

The impeachment motion was filed after Acting President Han refused to appoint a judge nominated by the main opposition Democratic Party to the Constitutional Court. 'Han did not see himself as acting president  He has shown himself to be a rebel,' said Park Chan-dae, the leader of the party's parliamentary party.

The opposition also accuses Han of helping President Yun impose martial law on December 3. Earlier, Han apologized for failing to stop the president's move. The Korean parliament, which declared martial law, passed a resolution of impeachment against President Yun on December 14. But if he is to be relieved of his post, the decision of the Constitutional Court is necessary.

There are currently 3 members vacant in the Constitutional Court. Acting President Han has refused to approve the appointment of a judge to a vacant position on the 9-member Constitutional Court. Opponents say the rejection of the formal appointment of the three judges means Han is unfit to act as president.

It is said that the impeachment motion against him will be voted on within the next 24 to 72 hours. 151 MPs must vote for the proposal to be passed. There are currently 300 members in the Korean Parliament. Among them, 170 MPs belong to the Democratic Party.
