Former JNU student leader Umar Khalid will leave for 7 days to attend a relative's wedding

Former student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Omar Khalid has been granted interim bail for 7 days by the court. In Kadakadu, Delhi, the court allowed Khalid to leave for 7 days to attend a relative's wedding.

The court has granted bail to Khalid from December 28 to January 3. The court has set some conditions for Khalid. During the 7 days, Khalid will only be able to meet with relatives and friends.

Also, he will be allowed to stay only at his home and the place of marriage. Similarly, he has been banned from using social media and communicating with other witnesses. The court will release Khalid on 20,000 bail for 7 days.

Umar Khalid has been arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) i.e. UAPA. He has introduced himself as a social activist and has been in jail since September 2020.

In February 2020, two complaints were filed against him for inciting violence in North-East Delhi. He was granted bail in April 2021 on a complaint. But in another complaint, he has been charged under UAPA.
