Muhammad Yunus, who is leading the interim government after the exit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has said that elections will be held in Bangladesh only after a year. Addressing the nation on the occasion of Victory Day on Monday, Yunus said that general elections will be held in Bangladesh from the end of 2025 to the beginning of 2026.

Yunus says that the government has a plan to ensure that Bangladeshi immigrants can exercise their right to vote. He says that if only the voter list is updated, the elections will be held by the end of 2025. But based on the recommendations of the Electoral Reform Commission and the national consensus, if the electoral system is comprehensively reformed, elections can be held in early 2026, he said.

With the demand to make the upcoming elections transparent and inclusive in Bangladesh, discussions are going on between political parties and various bodies. Many voters did not participate in the last three elections in Bangladesh.

Yunus claims that since the voter list has not been updated for more than 15 years, it has become more challenging to conduct the upcoming elections. Yunus says that qualified citizens who have not been given the right to vote for the past 15 years should be included in the list and double registration should be removed. .

Chief Counsel Yunus said that a large number of youths were deprived of their right to vote in the previous elections . Most of the youth will be voting for the first time in their lives. Their participation in the upcoming  It will make the election historic and memorable. Yunus has also asked the Election Commission, political parties, and social organizations to take new and creative initiatives.
