At least 50 people were killed in airstrikes carried out by Israel in various locations in southern Lebanon on Monday. More than 300 were injured in the attack.
According to Lebanon's Ministry of Health, women, children and health workers are among the injured. Monday's attack is said to be the biggest since October 7.
Government officials have estimated the number of people killed in the attack to be much higher. The Israeli army has claimed that the attack targeted the base of the armed group Hezbollah in Lebanon .
Since the start of the war in Gaza about a year ago, there have been daily shootings on the Israel-Lebanon border . On September 7, 2023, the Palestinian group Hamas attacked northern Israel. Since then, about 42,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's attack on Gaza.
As Israel intensified its attack against Hamas, Hezbollah announced that it would support Hamas. Because of this, Israel launched an attack targeting Hezbollah. Last week, at least 37 people were killed in the explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies used by the Hezbollah group for communication. More than 3,500 people were injured in that incident.
Hezbollah warned that Israel was responsible for the explosion and would take revenge for the incident. But Israel has not yet responded to that. Also, Hezbollah's top military commander, Ibrahim Akil, was killed in an airstrike by Israel on Friday in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
Hezbollah and Hamas have been listed as terrorist groups by some countries, including Israel, the United States, and the UK.
